All about the stylist

Ever since I was a little one I have had a love for hair. Technically I have been a hair stylist for 20 years. Of course my only clients were Barbie’s and dolls for the first 4. When I was 5 I chose my baby sister to be my first genie pig. I didn’t do to bad, and she looked pretty cute with an extremely short bowl cut with lots of artistic texture. It was right after that when I started telling my family I wanted to be a ‘hair stylist in Hollywood’. When I got older I went through a short stage of wanting to be a photographer then it changed to a massage therapist. My true passion stayed near by and in my freshman year of high school my guidance counselor informed me that in my junior year of high school I could apply to go to cosmetology school. When the time came I was absolutely thrilled. To be accepted you had to have good grades and write a long paper of why you should be chosen. Although English was never my strongest subject, I wrote about my love for hair. On August 16th of 2006 I graduated top of my class at Maricopa Beauty College. My favorite part of being in the salon would have to be color, but I could never let go of cutting and shaping. To see the look on peoples face after you have given them a complete hair make over is one of the best feelings in the world.

After a few years of building a clientele, I opened my first studio salon. Such a great experience at 20 years old, I learned a lot about running a business. In February of 2009 I did hair for my very first photo shoot and was opened to a whole new world. A week later I was asked to participate in a Fascinations fashion show. I really enjoyed the thrill and challenge of being behind the curtains and having to complete 10 models hair in such a short time frame. For the next few months I built my portfolio doing various photo shoots with multiple photographers and make up artist and grew as a hair designer, spraying and sculpting hair into whatever sculpture I wanted. I was ready to accomplish anything that was thrown at me. Three years after graduation, August of 2009, I was introduced to the making of a film, my true love. Love at first site. I worked with Synthetic Human Productions on a short film that won awards from multiple film festivals. I then ended the year with my first six page magazine spread in Phoenix Woman magazine, my first cover on Your Health magazine, and a fashion show with three designers from Scottsdale fashion week. Fortunately it didn’t end there, I started 2010 with another cover of Your Health magazine and became a contract hair stylist for a bridal company. With them I have done tons of wedding party’s, I really enjoy making a bride feel beautiful,  and hair for Fox news and Sonoran Living. I also was able to do hair for a small clip of a movie produced by Temple Hill entertainment, which will be out in summer of 2011.

In my personal life I am madly in love and have been married to the man who completes me, for 3 amazing years. Turns out hes in the film industry and dreams of making his own films. So I just might be "a hair stylist in Hollywood" one day haha. Going to a movie has always been something I enjoy. When I go I guarantee you I can describe every characters hair when its over. My passion tends to really get in the way during a period piece film and I have a hard time paying attention to whats going on. There is something about how clean and historically accurate the hair styles are that inspires me.

I have many many years ahead of me and I hope to accomplish any thing that I want. Challenges are thrilling, why stop at what you know. Life is what you make it and I want mine to be an adventure.
